● February 20. Tonga Volcano and Global Warming: by John Shewchuk.
Find out why the unprecedented Tonga Volcano, which erupted near the Fiji Islands in 2022, is causing this year's unprecedented global warming temperature spike and why our models are having trouble reacting to it. Also learn why it delayed the 2024 hurricane season, prevented formation of La Nina, caused the equatorial Atlantic cooling, the Sahara desert's monsoon-like rains, and numerous record breaking temperatures worldwide ... and it’s affects continue today.
● March 20. We Live in the Pleistocene Ice Age: by John Shewchuk.
We live in the coldest period of Earth's 4.5 billion year history. It's called the Pleistocene Ice Age, which started 2.5 million years ago; and with few exceptions, each Ice Age glaciation gets colder and colder. Before the Pleistocene, the Earth had no permanent ice caps - but now we do. Even though we are in an Interglacial Warming Period, many glaciers continue to grow.
● April 17. Florida Weather 101: by John Shewchuk.
Learn about heat-lightning, and why some storms have lightning while others don't. Learn why clouds move at different directions at different heights, and how sea-breezes control most of Florida's daily weather. Learn why dry-lines produce bigger storms, and why The Villages is in a tornado "dead zone" when it comes to Doppler weather radar warnings.
● May 15. Lightning -- at 1 PM at Bridgeport: by Len Hathaway.
Since Florida is the lightning capital of the U.S. learn about the myths versus facts about lightning. Learn about the many Villages homes which have been hit by lightning and how lightning rods and various forms of protection can reduce lightning damage. Also learn bout the basic rules about protecting people and property.
● June 19. Global Warming: by John Shewchuk.
This is a 2-part talk. Part 1 discusses how and when the "global warning" scare began, and how the U.S. formally labeled carbon dioxide (CO2) as a pollutant in the U.S. Part 2 discuses climate data, much of what is government data and yet is not seen in the media, but which shows that there is no climate emergency.
● July 17. Climategate: by John Shewchuk.
Climategate began on 19 November 2009, when a whistle-blower leaked
thousands
of emails and documents within the Climatic Research Unit of the University
of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. This talk shows actual emails
describing how scientists were not only manipulating climate data, but also
were also working to control who could publish findings.
● August 21. Funny, Fake, and Fascinating Weather: by John Shewchuk.
Learn about the science behind some funny, fake, and fascinating weather and climate change -- in Florida and around the world.
●● Lightning Note. Because Florida is the lightning capital of the U.S., you need to be aware of the risk that lightning poses to you and your property. Florida typically leads the nation each year in fatalities, injuries, and property damage. If your club or organization would like information about how to protect yourself and your property, you can request a presentation of the Lightning Tips for Villagers, which is a free, non-commercial, educational Power Point presentation.
