The Villages Weather Club

The Weather Club is a residents-only (and guests) club for The Villages, FL.
Club meetings: Every 3rd Thursday at 1 pm at the Bridgeport Recreation Center.

Scheduled Talks . . .

●  April 17.  How the Oceans Influence our Weather:  by John Shewchuk.

Earth is mostly a water planet, and for that reason the oceans contain more than 90% of earth's heat. The Atlantic and Pacific oceans have created strong cycles that influence climate patterns that strongly affect global temperatures. Even though these cycles are felt within human lifetimes, climate models are still not able to replicate these ocean cycles.

●  May 15.  Lightning -- at 1 PM at Bridgeport:  by Len Hathaway.

Since Florida is the lightning capital of the U.S. learn about the myths versus facts about lightning.  Learn about the many Villages homes which have been hit by lightning and how lightning rods and various forms of protection can reduce lightning damage.  Also learn bout the basic rules about protecting people and property.

●  June 19.  Florida Weather 101:  by John Shewchuk.

Learn about heat-lightning, and why some storms have lightning while others don't. Learn why clouds move at different directions at different heights, and how sea-breezes control most of Florida's daily weather.  Learn why dry-lines produce bigger storms, and why The Villages is in a tornado "dead zone" when it comes to Doppler weather radar warnings.

●  July 17.  Global Warming:  by John Shewchuk.

This is a 2-part talk.  Part 1 discusses how and when the "global warning" scare began, and how the U.S. formally labeled carbon dioxide (CO2) as a pollutant.  Part 2 discuses climate data, of which most is government sourced, which clearly show that not only is there no climate emergency, but global warming and increasing CO2 actually benefit life on earth.

●  August 21.  Funny, Fake, and Fascinating Weather:  by John Shewchuk.

Learn about the facts & fictions behind some funny, fake, and fascinating weather and climate change subjects -- in Florida and around the world.  Subjects include everything from chemtrails, to green clouds, to strange weather radar images, and videos of staged weather reporting.

●● Lightning Note.  Because Florida is the lightning capital of the U.S., you need to be aware of the risk that lightning poses to you and your property. Florida typically leads the nation each year in fatalities, injuries, and property damage. If your club or organization would like information about how to protect yourself and your property, you can request a presentation of the Lightning Tips for Villagers, which is a free, non-commercial, educational Power Point presentation.
